critical cartography

"Maps are more than just objects for whose purpose is to direct us from one location to the next. Maps can be considered as social constructions, redescriptions of an underlying reality that communicate the intertwined dynamics of power, economics, culture, and technology that made them.  In other words, thinking about who made the maps, for what purpose, and how the maps shape our ideas about the world is important too."
